MRI for seniors – comfortable, safe, no tunnel

As we get older, lying in a narrow tunnel becomes more difficult. Joint pain, limited mobility, dementia – a standard MRI scan can sometimes be impossible. APERTA offers an alternative with a carer by your side, without the stress.

What makes MRI difficult for older people

Difficulty lying still, anxiety and disorientation (particularly with dementia), difficulty getting onto the narrow table of a standard MRI scanner, and the need for a carer to be present at all times. At APERTA, we address each of these issues: a 1 Tesla open scanner, a carer in the room, easy access, and short scan times.

Frequently asked questions

My mum has a pacemaker – can she have an MRI?

Most modern pacemakers are MRI-compatible. Check the documentation and we will verify it.

Can my grandson/daughter be in the room?

Yes, a carer is standard practice.

My dad has dementia – can you help?

Yes. The more information you send us in advance, the better we can tailor the procedure.

How long does the examination take?

20–40 minutes, with breaks if needed.

What about patients in wheelchairs?

We have disabled access and can assist with transfers.

Does the scan affect pacemakers?

Not with MRI-compatible pacemakers. We check the specifications of each device.

What about medication before the scan?

Take them as normal, unless your doctor has advised otherwise.

Are there any discounts for pensioners?

Please contact us – we offer special packages.
